Hay una forma de comprobar eso, puedes mirar al arranque, siempre cuando incia la pc (dependiendo de la bios que tienes) podras ver una pantalla negra donde dice resumidamente todos los dispositivos.
Floppy, disco duro unidades de CD, debe haber una lista al final donde digan los IRQ'S que son las interrupciones de entrada y salida de los dispositivos, entonces deberias ver algo estilo Network Controller..
Esta pantalla no tarda mucho en quitarse, en la pc donde falla la placa y no aparece, mete un cd de linux y arranca con el livecd, cuando termine de arrancar hacer con el comando un escaneo de los PCI

Depende de que tengas en tu sistema es lo que usaras, lo mas comun es que uses el lspci tiene capacidades similares**

Según todo esto podemos destacar lo siguiente:

Si salen en esa lista es que funciona el dispositivo, no importa si no tienes el controlador minimo debe salir como desconocido, obio como en windows que sale con signo de interrogacion al menos sabe el S.O que tiene algo conectado aunque no sepa como hacer para usarlo. Si no aparece es que esta mal conectada o definitivamente no anda mas.
Me paso lo mismo que a vos, con el sonido ami no me detectaba el sonido ni el bios ni windows, ni linux, todo paso de un dia a otro y fue por un jumper que se movio (aun no se como paso).
Yo pienso que si no sale en el escaneo es que se movio la placa, prueba sacarla y cambiarla de PCI incluso intercambiarla si tienes tiempo y quieres hacer el esfuerzo en probar, yo creo que puede ser que este floja y por eso no te la detecta, es raro que se quemen por la nada.
Resumen:
1.Prueba cambiar la placa que falla de PCI, es decir del puerto 2 al 3 o 4.
2.Windows debe detectarlo, sino emplear un livecd y hacer un escaneo.
3. Si la placa sigue sin detectarse, mover la PCI a la pc en la que funciona o mejor a otra (para que no la alteres) Pruebala en cada PCI si aun asi no funciona es que si algo mal tiene la placa.
No son muy caras pero te entiendo que seguro no tienes dinero para comprarte una tonteria de esas ademas es tiempo ir a buscarlas.
